Las mejores y peores lentes Sony FE para cámaras A7

Sony FE 55mm f/1.8

Mientras revisaba el Sony A7 II, tuve la oportunidad de probar y jugar con todos los lentes Sony FE fabricados a partir de abril de 2015. La lista incluye los siguientes lentes: Sony FE 35 mm f/2.8, Zeiss Loxia 35 mm f/2, Zeiss Loxia 50 mm f/2, Sony FE 55 mm f/1,8, Sony FE 16-35 mm f/4 OSS, Sony FE 24-70 mm f/4 OSS, Sony FE 28-70 mm f/3,5-5,6 OSS y Sony FE 70-200 mm f/4 OSS. Dado que también tenía simultáneamente los cuerpos Sony A7R y A7S (las revisiones seguirán pronto), decidí medir el rendimiento de MTF de cada lente usando Imatest y ver cómo funcionan individualmente. Si bien planeo revisar todos estos lentes en detalle en los próximos meses, pensé que reunir algunos datos para nuestros lectores podría ser útil, tal vez para aquellos lectores que ya poseen el sistema A7 o aquellos que están planeando para invertir en ella. Los números a continuación se basan en dos muestras diferentes de cada lente (siempre hago todo lo posible para probar al menos dos debido a la variación de la muestra) y los números que presento son para la lente que mostró los mejores resultados. Desafortunadamente, debido al problema del impacto del obturador de la cámara Sony A7R, no pude probar de manera confiable el lente Sony FE 70-200 mm f/4 OSS, particularmente en algo más largo que 100 mm. Tendré que volver a probar esa lente cuando Sony agreguefunción de obturador de cortina frontal electrónico para el A7R, o lanza un cuerpo más nuevo de 36 MP+ con EFCS incorporado (sí, el impacto del obturador en el A7R es bastante significativo). Todavía no he probado los lentes Sony FE recientemente anunciados, así que los probaré por separado tan pronto como los tenga en mis manos.

1) Sony FE 55 mm f/1.8

El Sony FE 55mm f/1.8 tiene un desempeño estelar, con una nitidez soberbia y uniforme en todo el encuadre. Si bien su poder de resolución central no es tan bueno como en el Sony FE 35mm f/2.8, se acerca bastante en comparación y tiene un rendimiento mucho mejor en el marco medio y en las esquinas:

Cuando se trata de variación de muestra, el Sony FE 55mm f/1.8 parece ser bastante consistente. Ambos lentes funcionaron bastante bien en Imatest y no mostraron ningún descentramiento serio ni otros problemas ópticos.

2) Sony FE 35 mm f/2.8

Esta lente pequeña y liviana es una joya absoluta, una prueba de que las lentes diseñadas para cámaras sin espejo con una distancia de brida corta pueden superar a las lentes de longitud focal similares creadas para cámaras DSLR. El Sony FE 35mm f/2.8 supera a todos los lentes de 35mm que he probado hasta la fecha, a excepción del Sigma 35mm f/1.4 Art , que iguala en f/4. Fíjate en el siguiente gráfico:

La variación de la muestra está bien controlada. Probé un total de tres muestras de esta lente (una en 2014 y dos en 2015) y las tres estaban muy cerca ópticamente. Tenga en cuenta que la resolución es realmente buena en el centro, pero el rendimiento de la mitad del marco y las esquinas se ve afectado en comparación con otras lentes de 35 mm. El viñeteado también es bastante fuerte en esta lente.

3) Zeiss Loxia 35 mm f/2 Biogon T*

El Zeiss Loxia 35mm f/2 no se parece en nada al Sony 35mm f/2.8. Es notablemente más pesado, tiene un cañón y un capó totalmente metálicos (vs. de plástico) y se siente completamente diferente al manejarlo. A diferencia del Sony 35mm f/2.8, tiene un anillo de apertura, por lo que controlas la apertura directamente a través de la lente (no hay forma de hacerlo a través de la cámara). El anillo de enfoque es suave y muy sensible. En el momento en que comienza a mover el anillo de enfoque, la cámara entra automáticamente en el modo de zoom, lo que le permite obtener un enfoque preciso. En general, se siente y actúa como una lente de grado mucho más alto que la versión fabricada por Sony. Echemos un vistazo a sus características MTF:

Solo probé una muestra de esta lente y resultó ser genial. Sin descentramiento u otros problemas ópticos.

4) Zeiss Loxia 50 mm f/2 plano T*

El Zeiss Loxia 50mm f/2 es otro lente hermoso, que está diseñado de manera muy similar al Loxia 35mm f/2. De hecho, si compra el 35 mm f/2 para sus cámaras de la serie Sony A7, tiene sentido adquirir este lente también, ya que lo más probable es que se enamore de ambos. Al igual que el 35 mm f/2, solo probé una muestra. No se detectaron descentramiento u otros defectos graves. La calidad de Zeiss habla por sí sola.

5) Sony FE 16-35 mm f/4 OS

El Sony FE 16-35mm f/4 OSS lanzado más recientemente también es un objetivo excelente, con características de resolución muy impresionantes entre 16 mm y 28 mm. Su rendimiento cae bastante en el extremo largo de 35 mm, pero aún así no está mal. Hay un poco de curvatura de campo en el extremo ancho. La lente es pesada y grande, pero se equilibra bien en las cámaras de la serie A7, particularmente en la A7 II. Echemos un vistazo a las cifras de MTF:

La lente funciona increíblemente bien en su distancia focal más amplia de 16 mm. Las esquinas son un poco débiles cuando están abiertas de par en par, pero se ven bastante bien cuando se reducen a f/5.6.

Y a 35 mm, la lente muestra una caída visible en la nitidez, particularmente en las esquinas.

La variación de la muestra es algo así como una mezcla. La primera muestra tuvo un problema de descentramiento y mostró un rendimiento deficiente en el lado izquierdo del marco. Tuve que mover la configuración hacia la izquierda para luchar contra el problema del descentramiento e incluso entonces los números no coincidían con lo que mostraba la segunda muestra. Los diseños de lentes complejos dificultan la producción de un rendimiento muy consistente de una lente a otra, pero recomendaría encarecidamente a cualquiera que quiera comprar esta lente que la pruebe y se asegure de que no tenga problemas ópticos graves.

El Sony FE 28-70mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS es un kit de lentes que viene con las cámaras Sony A7 / A7 II. Aunque es una lente de plástico y liviana, en realidad tiene un rendimiento bastante bueno, especialmente en cámaras Sony A7 de baja resolución como A7 / A7 II. Y aquí podemos ver que la lente es bastante buena en el centro. Sin embargo, debido a la curvatura del campo, la lente sufre un rendimiento bastante pobre en la mitad del marco y en las esquinas.

Al igual que el OSS de 16-35 mm f/4, el OSS de 28-70 mm f/3,5-5,6 funciona peor en su distancia focal más larga. Podemos ver que hay una caída bastante significativa en la nitidez en todo el cuadro. El rendimiento está en su punto más alto en la apertura más amplia de f/5.6, por lo que detenerse solo mejora las esquinas extremas.

También probé tres muestras de esta lente, una en 2014 y dos en 2015. Las tres eran lentes decentes, pero mostraron variaciones en el rendimiento. La primera muestra fue bastante buena, la segunda fue promedio y la tercera tuvo problemas de descentramiento más allá de los 50 mm. Se espera ver más variación en lentes más baratos, por lo que no es una sorpresa. Aún así, cuando vea las cifras de resolución a continuación para la lente OSS de 24-70 mm f/4, comprenderá que la de 28-70 mm presenta un valor general mucho mejor.

Con 70 mm, el 24-70 mm mejora un poco, pero sigue siendo bastante malo. Al igual que otros zooms, 70 mm es la peor distancia focal para este objetivo.

Si bien solo probé dos muestras de lentes, esta resultó ser la peor del grupo. No estoy seguro de si Sony simplemente estaba acelerando la producción de estas lentes, o tal vez el diseño óptico de la lente es simplemente pobre, pero vaya... la primera muestra del 24-70 mm fue terrible. Tanto el bajo rendimiento de MTF como los problemas de descentramiento estaban presentes, lo que hizo que probar esta lente fuera una pesadilla. La segunda muestra tenía problemas ópticos extraños en una esquina particular del marco, pero no era mala para probar. El rendimiento de MTF en ambos fue desalentador y la cantidad de distorsión exhibida por el 24-70 mm es escandalosa. No lo ve en la cámara, pero una vez que coloca los archivos en Lightroom, lo verá de inmediato. Distorsión de barril fuerte a 24 mm que se transforma en acerico a 35 mm, se convierte en acerico fuerte a 70 mm y se mantiene así hasta los 70 mm. El 28-70 mm también muestra signos de distorsión, pero dado su precio, no es inesperado. Por $1200, el 24-70 mm debería haber sido mucho mejor.

Tal vez ambas lentes eran limones, pero viendo lo mal construidas que están las lentes de 24-70 mm (la parte frontal de la lente se tambalea cuando se extiende, se siente pegajosa, etc.), seguramente no merece el nombre de Zeiss. Se siente como una lente superzoom barata, no como un 24-70 mm profesional. Seria decepción. Estoy planeando probar otra copia de esta lente para ver si podría ser mejor ópticamente...
